Welcome

Welcome to the Historic Village of Gates Mills!

Welcome to the Village of Gates Mills, founded in 1826.  With its unique blend of Western Reserve architecture, civic engagement and convenient location, residents have found Gates Mills to be one of the most desirable locations in Northeast Ohio.  With several community organizations and multiple ways to become involved in Village activities, our residents pride themselves on their strong sense of community.  We hope you will chose to live in this amazing, vibrant community.

VILLAGE ORGANIZATIONS AND VILLAGE LIFE:  Gates Mills has a number of wonderful organizations that enhance Village life.  Participation in one or more of these groups is an excellent way to meet other Villagers.  Village organizations include the Community Club, Improvement Society, Historical Society, Land Conservancy, Friends of the Library, and Garden Club.  The Village and its organizations sponsor several fun events each year including a Halloween Party, Easter Egg Hunt, Independence Day Parade, Christmas Eve Bonfire with Santa, and a Menorah Lighting.  Additional information on Village life can be found on the Village’s website:  www.gatesmillsvillage.com.  We hope you will take the time to visit the website!

AWARD WINNING MAYFIELD SCHOOLS:  Gates Mills is part of the award winning Mayfield School district, one of the top school districts in the nation.  Mayfield High School was recently named one of the Top 500 “Most Challenging” Schools in the U.S by Newsweek. The Class of 2015 posted the highest ACT scores in Mayfield High School history and SAT scores are well above the national average.  The Advanced Placement (AP) program was nationally recognized for the third consecutive year.  In 2015, Mayfield Middle School was the only school in Ohio to be named an “Ohio School to Watch” by the Ohio Department of Education.  All third grade students passed the reading guarantee requirements.  For more information on Mayfield schools visit www.mayfieldschools.org and read the 2015 Quality Profile.

THE PINK SHEET:  Be sure to check out our local publication, The Pink Sheet.  Published by the Community Club 10 times a year, The Pink Sheet is one of the Village’s most valued traditions.  It’s how you’ll find out about the Art Show, Easter Egg Hunt, 4th of July Parade, Summer Band Concert on the Green, Christmas Eve Bonfire, Players performances and important Village meetings.  The Mayor, Police Chief, and Fire Chief provide timely information as do our clubs and village columnists.  You won’t be able to miss The Pink Sheet when it arrives in the mail due to its distinctive pink color.  You can view the most recent issue of The Pink Sheet online at www.gatesmillspinksheet.com.

ORDINANCES:  Gates Mills has a long history of preserving its heritage, particularly in the HISTORIC DISTRICTS.   If you are planning on making any changes to your new home or removing any trees, it is important to consult the Village Ordinances.  The Planning and Zoning Code and the Building and Housing Code can be found on the Village website:     www.gatesmillsvillage.com/building/ordinances.  Questions may be directed to Town Hall:  440-423-4405.

COMMITTEES OF COUNCIL:  Many citizens, through their participation on one of the Committees of Council, help the Mayor and Village Council carry out some of the work necessary to keep Village life running smoothly.   Participation on one of the committees is a great way to meet other Villagers and get involved.  Most of the committees and members are listed on the Village website:  www.gatesmillsvillage.com/committees.

GATES MILLS DIRECTORY:  Copies of the Gates Mills Directory, which also contains a fold out map of the streets and property parcels, can be purchased at Town Hall and the Gates Mills Library for $8.  In addition to phone numbers and e-mail addresses, the directories contain a wide variety of useful  information about village life.  For your convenience, a fold out map of the streets and property parcels in Gates Mills is also included.
