February 2008 Pink Sheet Winter greetings to everyone. I'm always amazed at the beauty of our Village in every season. New-fallen snow glitters like diamonds at dusk.
While the Village is certainly financially sound at present and well into the future, changes in state and county funding have given us a greater burden with respect to road repair. We have important road repair projects planned for streets, road surfaces and culverts. We must also budget for unexpected repair, such as that required by the three slides that occurred last year. Without county funding, each municipal government must now raise all funds for these projects. Due to Mayfield Road construction, Gates Mills has seen substantial amount of extra traffic, which is wearing out our roads at a faster rate.
By this time, all residents should have received in the mail my letter about our upcoming levy. I urge you to read it. This new levy would be dedicated to roads, bridges and culverts only.
Gas well safety issues have become a top priority and the Village has declared a moratorium on drilling. The State of Ohio removed municipal regulation control, not even providing an inspection requirement. But now, after a highly publicized incident in Bainbridge, the State is being asked to develop safety standards and inspection procedures to make gas well drilling safer.
Congratulations to our new Police Chief, Steven C. Szeredy, and new Executive Lieutenant, Ronald L. Whitmer. We went through a fair process and are thrilled to have hired the best candidates from within the Department.
Be sure to vote on March 4th!
