Gates Mills

From the Mayor - May '23
Monday, May. 8th

Dear Villagers,

April showers bring May flowers…so they say. We will hope for just a few rain showers in May to keep the Village beautiful!

Our Service Department is working very hard to clean up for spring after winter. The amount of damaged trees and bushes created from only a few bad storms is truly amazing.

Please remember to get your permits for cutting trees. It is also important that you maintain your fences. Broken fences are an eyesore and could be a danger…please repair or remove them.

Our traditional Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday, April 8. The event had a record attendance! The Easter Bunny was happy taking pictures with everyone! Thank you to the Misch family, Mulh family, Dorothy Slunski, Sudie Bercheck, Mary Schmidt and all the volunteer hunt helpers! A special thank you to the Service Department for our new Easter cut-out decorations! Everyone loved them!

The Gates Mills Art Show was off to a good start at the Patron Party on April 15. It was a beautiful show! Thank you to Bob Andreano and the whole team of volunteers. It is a lot of work, but very worthwhile. If you are interested in helping next year, please let us know.

Over 100 residents participated in the Town Hall meeting on April 18th concerning the Village’s ten-year Comprehensive Plan. The goals and objectives of the Plan were discussed in small groups. Then each resident was asked to complete a worksheet offering their opinion about the top priorities in the Plan. This information was given to CT Consultants to compile and report to our Advisory Committee who will meet this month to finalize the Plan. On behalf of the Village, I extend my thanks to all of the volunteers who contributed to executing this process over the last 15 months, and to all of the residents who participated in the Village survey, individual interviews, attended Town Hall and/or neighborhood meetings, and offered their insights about the future of our Village. I will keep you informed about the next steps in the coming months.

Our July 4th Parade planning is under way. New residents and families, please watch for July 4th information. We would love to have additional bike riders in the parade. Bike decorating is planned at our library for the morning of the parade.

We are planning the summer band concert for July 23. Details will be forthcoming.

Please note we have Electronic Recycling on May 6th and Household Hazardous Waste Dropoff on May 16th. More details are available on our website, www.gatesmillsvillage.com.

I hope everyone is able to enjoy all that a Gates Mills spring offers.
