The Gates Mills Fire Department Cadet Program was established in 1999 for high school student's ages 14 - 17 that are interested in possibly pursuing a future career in the fire service. The Cadets attend the regular fire department meetings and participate in training evolutions to get a chance to see all the mental and physical requirements of being a firefighter.

The Cadets have a wide variety of responsibilities, which include painting and flushing the fire hydrants that are located throughout the Village. Some cadets in the area are issued pagers and are authorized to respond with firefighters to emergency calls and participate in non-dangerous activities under the supervision of the officer in charge.

Currently the program consists of 6 cadets. Cadets interested in the fire department, upon request, may be sent to fire school and placed on active duty with the Gates Mills Fire Department.

Students interested in joining the Cadet Post Program should contact Assistant Chief Tom Majeski.
