Gates Mills

From the Mayor - May 2020
Friday, Jun. 5th

Dear Villagers,

May brings our beautiful flowers, green trees and warmer weather…all positive signs offering
some consistency as we live through our new normal. I’m sure all of you are fixated with the
continually changing news. So am I. In addition, I’ve been “Zooming” with our State Officials
and conference calling with Dr. Parker, President of Hillcrest Hospital. These meetings are very
informative in providing updates regarding the direction for our State and Village for the near
future.

Our April Council meeting was convened via a Zoom meeting with a livestream to YouTube. It
went pretty well once we were able to initiate the livestream. Our May 12th regular council
meeting will be done the same way with the meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. You can access
the livestream from our website, www.gatesmillsvillage.com. You will just have to click on
the link to view the meeting on our YouTube channel. Most other meetings will have to wait
until we get the go-ahead from the State.

The Village is switching from using CCA to RITA as our income tax collection authority starting
July 1st. Please read Bob Reitman’s tax news in this Pink Sheet. Watch for a “Welcome Letter”
from RITA to be in your mail in late May or early June.

If you haven’t done so yet, please respond to the U.S. Census. It is an important step to complete
in getting funding for our State and area. Please refer to information provided in this Pink Sheet.
Our Improvement Society is working on two different plans for our beloved July 4th parade. Let’s
hope we can have a regular parade! If not, we will adjust to a Plan B with details to be provided
later.

Our Long Range Planning Committee is going to start its work soon, hopefully with a virtual
meeting. It will be posted on our website, with links as needed. Our Master Planning is on hold
until we can meet in person.

I want everyone to know what a wonderful job Mike Feig and Tom Majeski are doing with painting
the interior of the Community House. Since most everything has been cancelled, they have moved
ahead with the re-freshing of the building. I had a sneak peek…WOW! I’m still looking for
donations so we can keep going. A big thank you to all who have donated so far.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in person soon!
