Gates Mills

From the Mayor - May 2025
Monday, May. 5th

Hello Villagers,

The beauty of Spring is here. Early flowers and trees are in bloom, bushes and lawns are greening and days are warmer. The changing of the seasons is a natural wonder of living in the Midwest. Enjoy this annual, but never-tiring, way of Mother Nature.

You’ve likely seen the activities and programs associated with this time of year. In April, the Art Show celebrated its 54th year, the St Christopher Bargain Box held a wonderful fundraising event and the Easter Egg Hunt was a tremendous success on the village green with the rain having paused for three hours. Thank you to all the volunteers that made these events successful. There are many more activities and programs scheduled. I encourage you to read the Pink Sheet carefully and fill out your calendars, so you don’t miss them.

Among the many items in the Village this year are two new and noteworthy events. As you know, environmental stewardship is one of the Village’s strategic priorities. You’ve likely read in the 2024 Annual Report about the Tree Canopy Committee and the four pilot projects to address invasive growth and educate Villagers so they can assess their own properties. The Village and the GM Land Conservancy have developed a respectable reputation for these efforts. So much so that Gates Mills will host, on May 12th, the only location in Cuyahoga County for the statewide program run by Holden Forests & Gardens, Caring for your Woods: First Steps. I recommend you attend that evening. The GMLC is also working with the National Trust Alliance’s conference committee to have Gates Mills as a field trip stop at its national conference held in Cleveland this Fall.

At the last council meeting, I mentioned the need to take a fresh look at senior services. I am putting together a group to help me. If you have an interest, I would love to have you join the group for a meeting or two as we assess the needs and the possible solutions.

Welcome back to the snowbirds. We love that you migrate back north to enjoy your friends and your village.

Thank you,
