Gates Mills

From the Mayor - Nov 2020
Thursday, Nov. 5th

Dear Villagers,

Our beautiful fall colors have arrived! The Valley is bright with many colors and shapes. Autumn also brings an end to Daylight Savings time. Remember to change your clocks November 1st when we “fall back” one hour.

The Village’s Halloween Event was held on October 30th as a drive through this year. Cars were filled with lots of goblins and ghosts. A big thank you is given to our Service Department, Community Building staff and Town Hall Coordinators for all of the work preparing and setting up the COVID friendly event.

On October 20th we had a very nice and meaningful ceremony in the Village. We honored resident Chris Papouras who won the 2020 Ohio Fire Service Citizen’s Award. We should all be proud of him for risking his life to save another.

Please remember that Tuesday, November 3rd is Election Day. The Village has one issue (Issue #8) for an Operating Levy Renewal on the ballot. This is a 3.5 mill levy renewal first approved by voters in 1996 and 100% of the levy proceeds are used for Village services. If you have not voted early, please vote on Election Day.

A new program will be offered November 3rd through November 15th to assist with disposing of political and campaign signs. You can drop off your signs in a special bin near the paper recycling bins in the Service Yard Area at Town Hall. The signs will be taken to the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District for recycling. We hope this assists in tidying up the Village before the snow arrives!

Please remember to check to see if your house numbers are visible in both directions. Make sure you have “Your 911” on all cell phones living in your home. Please continue to be our eyes and ears.

Finally, I would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for all of the community support in the Village and for the beautiful community that we call home.
