Gates Mills

From the Mayor - November 2019
Thursday, Nov. 14th

Dear Villagers,

The Gates Mills Community Club’s “An Evening in the Village” took place on October 19th and was a great success! It was enjoyed by a sell-out crowd entertained by Steve Jochum. Everyone left full, from
a wonderful Sara’s dinner, and happy with winnings from a wine pull and silent auction. This event was
the kickoff for the refreshing of the Community House. Thank you to the Community Club for a very fun night and all of your hard work.

The Village’s Halloween Party was held on October 25th and the Community House was filled with lots
of goblins and ghosts, treats for all, and Outback Ray with his exotic animals! Special thanks to
Joycelyn Brogley and Doug Webb and to all of the volunteers who helped. A big thank you is given to
our Service Department, Community Building staff and Town Hall Coordinators for all of the work
preparing and setting up the party.

Our Drug Take Back Day on October 26th and the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off on October 15th were well-received by residents. A Drug Dropoff Box is always available at the Town Hall back door if you have a disposal need between Drug Take Back Days. Both programs are very good and go a long way in keeping our Village safe and well-kept.

Please remember that Tuesday, November 5th is Election Day. The Village has one issue (Issue #39) for
an Operating Levy Renewal on the ballot. This is a 3.5 mill levy renewal first approved by voters in 2005 and 100% of the levy proceeds are used for Village services. If you have not voted early, please vote on Election Day. There will also be a charity bake sale in the upper level of the Community House for you to satisfy your sweet tooth!

After the new year, we will be organizing new and old committees. Tim Reynolds, as Treasurer, will be
organizing our Long Range Planning Committee again. This committee was very successful in coming
up with ideas to help the Village’s bottom line when they last met in 2016. All ideas are welcome!
Meetings are posted and open to the public. Any big changes would involve Town Hall meetings for
input and feedback.

Please remember to check to see if your house numbers are visible in both directions. Make sure you
have “Your 911” on all cell phones living in your home. Please continue to be our eyes and ears.

Finally, I would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for all of the community support
in the Village and for the beautiful community that we call home.
