Dear Villagers,

Fall is coming fast! It is hard to believe the summer is coming to an end, and we are still fighting COVID-19. I’m hopeful with mask wearing, social distancing and lots of washing everything, we will get through the fall without more restrictions.

We have had a few very positive events. The July 4^th virtual parade and the Parade coming to you, were very successful! A big THANK YOU to our Improvement Society for all the hard work.

The Nature Camp had a good 7 week run in the Village. It worked out very well by separating the different groups all over the Village. Thank you to the Hayes family and everyone who participated.

At our August 11 Zoom Council meeting, we approved road work for Old Mill, Berkshire, Woodstock and Dorchester. Since they were in the Village finishing some other work on that Tuesday, they started new work the next day – never happened like this before. Going forward, we will be notifying of upcoming work on our Village Website and via Gates Mills Connect. If you are not getting these notices, please call Jean or Dorothy at 440-423-4405.

Our Law Director is currently working on revising our sign ordinance implemented in 2002. At the moment parts of it are unenforceable. While we work on a revision, please be respectful of others’ points of view and their property.

Mayfield Schools will be starting virtually for the first 9 weeks. Gilmour, St. Francis and Hawken are all starting in person learning. Please be on the lookout for children.

Our Village looks terrific! Please keep yard and house maintenance going. Proper home maintenance preserves your home’s value, as well as the real estate values of all the properties in our village. Fence repairs, replacing house numbers, painting, removing junk, and not using blue tarps long term are items that keep our Village beautiful. Please be proud of our Village, as it benefits everyone.
