Event Listing - Wendy Mahon's Masks

Students going into grades K-5 are welcomed to the Gates Mills Branch Library for a special program. All cultures have a history of mask making. Learn to make masks using a variety of materials and techniques and about how masks are used in ceremonies and festivals. Incorporating a variety of geometric shapes, participants will learn to apply concepts of two and three-dimensional designs to their own creations. Children going into grades K-5 are welcomed to the Gates Mills Branch Library to meet Sue Durante, the Bubble Lady, and see bubbles that perform in a magical manner. See bubbles that multiply, do acrobatic feats, square bubbles and even a whole person inside a bubble! Note: This will be held at the Community House across the street from the library. Event Listing - Daring to be Dumbo

Dancing Wheels come to the Gates Mills Branch Library for a special program. They offer a re-imaging of the original story that is set in a contemporary Junior High School, where Dumbo is now a thirteen year old girl who is bullied. The original themes of triumph over adversity still ring through at the core of this new program. NOTE: Performance will be at the Community House across the street from the library. Event Listing - Wednesday Night Book Discussion

Join us at the library for a discussion of "Death Comes for the Archbishop" by Willa Cather. In 1851 Father Jean Marie Latour becomes Apostolic Vicar to New Mexico, and over the next forty years he faces the lawlessness and loneliness of the frontier as he tries to spread his faith. Event Listing - Tuesday Book Discussion

Join us for a discussion of "419" by Will Ferguson. When her father dies after falling victim to an internet scam, Laura Curtis sets out to find his killer and becomes embroiled in a dangerous game involving a scarred woman from the African Sahel and a man trapped in a world of violence. Winner of the 2012 Giller Prize, this clever and unpredictable book is full of surprising characters in a variety of far flung locations. How far would you go to avenge a death? Event Listing - Author Visit and Writing Workshop

Author and Boston University writing professor, CB Anderson, will read from her newly published book of short stories, "River Talk" at the Gates Mills Branch Library.  Kirkus Review decared the book "an uncommonly clearsighted collection of short fiction" and "triumphant, probing debut that promises both literary and mass appeal."  A writing workshop led by the author will follow.
